The troop gear periodically needs inspection and repairs to ensure that it will be reliable on troop outings. Broken or malfunctioning gear can seriously impact a trip. The Adult Quartermaster could use some help going through gear - usually only once or twice per year (with scout help) or to repair individual pieces of equipment throughout the year. Please contact Bill Tripodi Jr (adultquartermaster@troop163.org) to let him know that you can help out.

Please Submit your Driver / Vehicle Information

Posted on Jul 24 2013 - 6:23pm

BSA requirements for outdoor activities often include submittal of a "Tour Plan". The tour plan helps the troop verify that it has sufficiently planned for a SAFE activity and part of this review includes verifying driver and vehicle qualifications. Per the BSA website (http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/healthandsafety/tourplanfaq.aspx) "the plan helps to organize safe and appropriate transportation to and from an event, and defines driver qualifications and minimum limits of insurance coverage for drivers and vehicles used to transport participants."

To ensure that we have the current information for all potential drivers and vehicles for troop events, we ask that you submit the following information to Jim Wendt (committeechair@troop163.org). The current list is several years old and contains outdated information. Newer scout families are not on the list.

Please take a few moments to complete the information below so that I may update our spreadsheet before we begin our new travelling season in September. Please respond even if you think I may have your information. The information requested will be used for the sole purpose of filing tour permits with the BSA Council.

  • Driver's name/license number/expiration date
  • Vehicle year/make/model and total number of seats (including driver)
  • Liability Insurance Coverage Limits: Each Person/Each Accident/Property Damage
  • Willingness to tow troop trailer if need arises (Yes/No)

Thank you for you anticipated cooperation in responding to this request for information.

Jim Wendt
Troop Committee Chair

To have a successful scouting program, a lot of " behind the scenes" activities need to take place. Some things are as simple as collecting and maintaining information (driver's list, permission slips, medical forms), others require a commitment for a limited time period (rechartering, equipment maintenance, merit badge instruction, fundraisers, trip registration's) and others require a more regular commitment (committee positions / participation, for example). All are very important, however, to ensure that the troop performs a safe, effective program that complies with BSA requirements.

The troop is looking to recruit volunteers to help with many of the activities and to free up adult leader resources to work on other things. We NEED your help! If you would like to help the troop, please contact Mr Wendt (committeechair@troop163.org) to let him know. Please include the following:

  • Area of interest (if known)
  • Any skills you might like to share
  • Level of commitment ( weekly, monthly, limited time period, etc)
  • Type of commitment ( lead role, supporting role)

Please also bear with us as we try to match interests with needs, and as we better define roles. If you don't immediately hear back, don't be afraid to contact us again! Watch for additional information on the website, in emails, and by direct communication. If you are interested in a particular position, also let us know, even if that position is currently filled (that person might like some help).

Check out the "Organization Structure" webpage for more information on where you might be able to help out.

Thank you for your anticipated help and support!

Great Time at Keowa

Congratulations to the 15 scouts who collectively earned 42 completed merit badges and 12 partial merit badges. Four new scouts also completed the Dan Beard program.

Congratulations, also, to Max W. and Kurt W. for earning the BSA Lifeguard award. This required a full week of dedication and both mental and physical stamina.

Despite a few showers, all campers had a fun time and everyone worked well together. Pictures have been uploaded to the website.

Thank you to Mrs Quincy, Mrs Philbrick and Mr Tripodi for their help with pre-summer camp activities and to Mr Grose, Mr Bonczek, Mr Townson, Mr Philbrick, and Mr Iken for their leadership during camp. Most importantly, thank you to Mr Quinlavin for all of the work he put in before and during camp to pull off another great summer trip.

New Adult Quartermaster

Congratulations to Bill Tripodi, Jr for taking on the adult quartermaster role. The adult leaders formally recognized him at their last meeting.

Thank you to Mr Barnes for his past leadership in this role. Thanks, also, to Mr Dutkowsky, Mr Quinlavin, Mr Philbrick, and Mr Iken for their help during this transition period.
