Advancement Reminder

The next Board of Review is scheduled for June 2. Now is the time to finish up any requirements that you need prior to the Board of Review. All completed merit badge cards must be submitted by June 2 in order to be awarded at the Troop Picnic/COA.

Urgent Request for Volunteers - Sprint For Monroe (June 2)

The organizers of the Sprint for Monroe have asked our troop to run a water station on School Street and Oakwood. Sprint for Monroe will provide all supplies (water, cups, tables, garbage). Three or four scouts and a few adults are needed to set up, run, and take down the water station.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Mrs Dutkowsky ASAP (dutkowsky@sbcglobal.net).

The Sprint for Monroe race is a feature of the community, raising funds for local charities including the Monroe Food Pantry, Project Warmth, the Monroe Education Foundation, the Monroe Police Department, as well other local groups. Please see the attached flyer for information about the race.

All scouts and uniformed leaders are asked to attend the Memorial Day Parade and march with the troop to honor all our men and women who have and are serving in the armed forces. Please meet us on Elm Street (Stop & Shop side) at 1:30 PM this coming Sunday. Please look for us midway down the parade line. Please register at the troop website.

The troop will be building our float on Saturday May 25th at 10 AM at 31 Cedar Hill Drive, Trumbull. It should take about 2 hours. Needed are parents with building skills. Please register at the troop website.

All scouts and parents planning on attending the Block Island trip (June 8 & 9) should register now. Registration will close will close on Saturday June 1st.

Scouts in the Military

The link between the military and Scouting traditions is strong. The BSA counts Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Gen. David Petraeus, Adm. Elmo Zumwalt and countless others among its distinguished alumni. In addition to the top brass, there are tens of thousands of in the ranks.

  • 181 NASA astronauts were involved in Scouting (57.4% of astronauts). 39 are Eagle Scouts.
  • 36.4% of the United States Military Academy (West Point) cadets were involved in Scouting as youth. 16.3% of cadets are Eagle Scouts.
  • 22.5% of United States Air Force Academy cadets were involved in Scouting as youth. 11.9% of cadets are Eagle Scouts.
  • 25% of United States Naval Academy (Annapolis) midshipmen were involved in Scouting as youth. 11% of midshipmen are Eagle Scouts.

The Troop will be marching in the Memorial Day Parade. Fulfill your Scout Oath and register to march with the troop.
